GBlist: Energy Star for Earth Day
I work with EPA to promote ENERGY STAR programs to institutions and those
interested in sustainable building design. I thought this would be a great
way for institutions to celebrate Earth Day (this year's theme is Clean
Energy Now!)-- by promoting energy efficiency in their own buildings!
If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact me.
Thanks,
Michelle

Choosing Lighting for Your Project? Choose Energy Star!
In partnership with US EPA and US DOE, over 40 top US manufacturers are
producing a wide variety of Energy Star residential light fixtures that are
attractive, high quality, and cost effective. These fixtures are ideal for
homes, dorms, hotels, health care facilities, municipal buildings, and many
other settings. They include indoor and outdoor hardwired fixtures, such as
ceiling-mounted lights; and portable fixtures, such as table lamps and CFL
torchieres.
EPA would like to recognize those who purchase and install Energy Star
residential light fixtures. In addition to saving on electricity bills and
maintenance costs, lighting projects that feature Energy Star residential
light fixtures will receive official recognition from EPA and publicity for
preventing pollution. This is a perfect way to publicize your environmental
commitment in time for Earth Day 2000!
For more information on Energy Star residential light fixtures, visit
www.energystar.gov, call the toll-free Energy Star Hotline at 1-888-STAR-YES
(1-888-782-7937), or contact Ian Todreas at The Cadmus Group, Inc., 135

Celebrate Earth Day 2000 with Energy Star!
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and Earth Day Network (EDN),
the worldwide organizer of Earth Day 2000, are partnering to celebrate the
thirtieth anniversary of Earth Day on April 22, 2000 by organizing events
around the themes of energy efficiency and clean energy. A transition to
energy efficiency and renewable resources will combat global warming,
protect human health, create new jobs, and ensure a secure, affordable
energy future.
For years, Energy Star programs have led the charge for reducing energy
waste. Nationally recognized as a symbol of energy and environmental
performance, Energy Star helps consumers and businesses identify home and
office products that are the most energy efficient. The suite of Energy Star
products includes new homes, roofing, home electronics, large household
appliances, residential lighting, office equipment, and more.
Now commercial buildings can qualify as Energy Star. Building owners and
managers can access a free, on-line performance rating tool at
www.epa.gov/buildings. It profiles a building’s energy performance and ranks
the building against similar facilities across the country. Those in the top
25% that apply for the Energy Star Label for Buildings will receive an
attractive bronze plaque indicating their superior energy performance.
