GBlist: ground coupled boulder

am designing a house to "U" around a boulder with the points of the U facing
south -- this is causing problems with the circulation, namely the stairs
between the levels --- have considered building including the boulder inside-
this would be nice in the summer probably (Charlottesville, VA), but in the
winter I am concerned about having a large boulder that would be perhaps 55
degrees ?? although it would have south facing glass directly in front of it
and would get direct sun in winter (heavily wooded site) of course if I
built with the boulder inside, there would be less lineal feet of exterior
walls, and perhaps that would counterbalance ----- removing it is NOT an
option <g> any thoughts or ideas ??? Thanks Linda Lloyd - The Quarries
