Hi Marilyn,

If whatever is being installed in the basement makes
you sick, don't install it upstairs!  Find out what it
is, exactly, that you are reacting to, and look for
alternatives.
If it's too late to tear out the stuff in the basement,
maybe you can try to use a sealant on it.  (Are
you installing cermic tiles??)
