Re: GBlist: PV grid intertie costs
Brian,
I can only speak for myself when I am quoting prices per watt. I am sure
there other companies that can sell there equipment for less. However I
have to insist that $6 per watt is simply not available with out some
kind of incentive, whatever that maybe.
I am using an average number that I feel is a reasonable starting point,
$10 per watt. Our per watt cost is based on actual AC output, not the
size of the array. Since we do not sell photovoltaic systems every day
it does not make sense to me to try and be the cheapest around nor the
most competitive. That may change if we can create a better market.
I offer a complete system installed, including permits that is fully
warranted for five years as required in the State of California. In
order for us to break even on our cost we can not sell this system for
less than the actual cost plus overhead, we are not making any profit at
that level. We are in business for a reason, to make money.
I base my price on a turn key operation we do not break out our labor on
systems that we install. We are not a retail business like most of the
other companies out there so we do not buy factory direct. Our equipment
comes from various wholesale suppliers that maintain the same mark up as
we do.
Give me a project to look at and then I can go to work on the price. who
knows may $8.00 watt is possible.
Bion got a great deal, maybe there are other companies that can meet
that price. There is a lot more to this energy thing than us common
folk realize. People need to start reading between the lines a little
more, before we start turning into dinosaurs.
