Re: GBlist: P.V. Rebates?
What surprises me is how little we have learned over the decades. I
remember in the early 70's an article in Popular Science about 5 cent/kwh
PV power just around the corner. The projections for installed capacity and
costs at the millionroofs web site are so much like those DOE presented in
the early 80's. The anticipated jumps in installation and price reductions
are flights of fantasy. There are certainly locations and uses for which
PV is the most economical and practical solution. Price reductions will be
postponed until demand in non-electrified areas of developing countries is
saturated. Until I actually see those price lists in front of me, these
projections of installed capacity and price are just vapor ware. Until then
it is cream skimming of the most cost effective high value and remote PV
applications. Energy efficiency is by far the best use of publlic
money...over any new power supply.
