GBlist: woodpeckers and mold and cold--boy I got to get off the digest version

Hi all

my partners' mother has had some success with
windsocks, shiny milar balloons and tinsel
things that flutter, things that glitter
also I have been reading about CD wind catchers for scare birds

making wine I learned that vinegar kills yeast
so I started trying it on mold and mildew--get plenty of it in
Rochester "101% humidity" NY--and while vinegar doesn't kill
everything, it works enough of the time that I haven't bought a new
bottle of bleach in about 4 years

here is the indoor shutter design we are planning to use
it's sort of halfway between a window quilt and shutter really
make a light wooden frame (bigger than the window)
stretch a medium-heavy fabric over it
alla preparing a painters canvas (the special pliers help)
fill the interior with the insulation of your choice,
        be sure it won't slouch,
then stretch another fabric to close
either tie die/marble/batik before stretching or paint after
finally hang with hinges or magnets
obviously this will only work on a window which sits relatively flat
(which is why they aren't for this house
with the huge impractical gorgeous wasteful wood trim)

sorry to run it all together like this
--Antonio
