Energy performance modeling software

Any suggestions for energy performance modeling software for residential
design - ideally simplified for preliminary design work?

I have browsed through many energy performance software solutions via the
D.O.E. and have seen articles by Marc Rosenbaum using Energy10.
This all seems so extensive for architects or building designers to rough
out a strategy. Any leads or websites to research this is appreciated.
