Anyone remember an idea called the Annual Cycle of  Energy System (ACES)?
If I recall, it involved using a large volume of water to store a summer's
worth of heat, which was used to warm a space in the winter, which would in
the process of heating the living space, be cooled, and could then be used
to cool the living space in the summer, etc.  Compressors and refrigerant
were involved, I suppose with some ductwork...
