Subject: [GBlist] PVC/ABS

I understand that the manufacturing process of PVC is nasty, I was wondering
if anyone had information about the manufacturing of ABS pipe, I am setting
up a rain catchment system and would like to find out if using ABS as the
collection pipe is going to make me have pig-faced offspring or something. I
thought since it was not under pressure it would work fine.

froman I don't know about off-spring, and I'm not going there, nope not a word! I do know, from experience that Gophers LOVE the stuff. This "green thing" is a trade off, always was-always will be. I don't believe any of us (we have computers and that alone says VOLUMES about how we live) are truly prepared to live Green. Many of us DO want to live more responsibly, within the constraints put on us. I mean I don't see large tribes of us moving our herds and flocks every week.
So what we do is TRY to build with the lesser of the impact, change our expectations and lower our consumption level. Now foam, plastic and the like are messy but they last a very long time and maybe they are the lesser of the impact. If a material is not going to "outgas" you then rethink it. Moving the herds and flocks gets pretty messy, given the road systems we've built up, not to mention the property ownership structure.
