Depends on your climate.

Here in eastern Canada/Northeast US, the short answer is yes. I have yet to 
see any credible alternative that doesn't involve depressurizing the house.

Heat Recovery Ventilators aren't sexy, unfortunately. Mechanically, 
however, they are quite basic.
