EUROPE TACKLES HIGH COST OF ENERGY DEPENDENCY

BRUSSELS, Belgium, April 25, 2001 (ENS) - The European Commission is
proposing a new law that would improve the energy efficiency of new and
existing buildings within the 15 member European Union.

The building sector is estimated to be responsible for 40 percent of the
European Union's energy consumption. Most of that energy is used for heat,
light, hot water and air conditioning.
