[GBlist] Fw: GrassRoots initiative

Did anyone other than me get this posting? Does anyone know anything
about the legitimacy of it? Thought you might find it interesting - as
well as definitely on topic.

A SOLAROOFGARDEN message for Beverly Weiter

Designed and modelled after nature, a Green Home is built with
the intent to live in harmony and balance with the environment,
while our home provides most of our daily needs including -
shelter, comfort, food and water and energy supply. It can
subsist off-grid in a regenerative, sustainable process that
uses ambient energy and Solar Power converted both by
PhotoVoltaic technology and by the Photosynthesis process of a
plant leaf canopy grown within the transparent roof system -
a "solaroofgarden".

The construction will be light and the technology soft and
appropriate to the locality and the site, which will result in
minimal environmental impact. The green home material must be
safe, non-toxic and provide maximum security and resistance to
natural disaster. It can be relocated and recycled - as a cost-
effective, efficient, accessible and affordable building block
for the construction of sustainable communities.

The green home technology will take root throughout the world to
yield a GREEN millennium in which there will be a sustainable
prosperity for all. In spite of an exploding human population
and expanding economies we may yet avoid eco-disaster and
impending resource exhaustion if we make the green home a
priority - NOW is the time to act. Team Up and build a
sustainable future for our children!

The GrassRoots initiative will support people, wherever they may
be located to build a home-based solaroofgarden as a first step
towards learning how to build green homes and green communities.
Together we can create a global collaboration to end hunger and
eliminate the roots of poverty. I invite you to say YIMBY to a
solaroofgarden – YesInMyBackYard.

Be cool around the pool under your shade structure. Turn off the
air-conditioning and hangout under your solaroofgarden. Grow
food for your own family (or for the hungry in your community).
Build one in your back yard and twin one in the lesser-developed
world – where a family may very well live under the
solaroofgarden structure. 400 million solaroofgardens in the
underdeveloped world = victory in our war on hunger. 400
million solaroofgardens in the developed world = a victory for
the planetary ecology and global warming mitigated.

Those of you who are Greenbuilders, Architects and Eco-
designers/planners – please Team Up and collaborate in the
development of the know-how connected with building home-based
solaroofgarden projects. I would like to post good "how to"
drawings and graphics on the solaroofgarden.com WebSite. (I have
taken the first step by posting some Concept Sketches). The
solaroofgarden can address the development needs of the North
and South and is affordable and accessible to all communities.
At present there are several inquiries from individuals who are
looking into the construction of a solaroofgarden.

What we in the North would build as a deck/pool shelter or a
garden structure would be appreciated as a breakthrough in
affordable shelter and offer a greatly improved standard of
living in the poorest communities of the world. After some
tentative steps to acquire the necessary experience and
collective knowledge we will be ready to take next big steps in
the maturation of our ecological construction abilities. We
could begin a global movement to build our HOMES and our
COMMUNITIES using such Greenbuilding methods and live lives that
reflect a renewed commitment to an ecology conscious lifestyle.

I hope that many of you will take the opportunity to look into
our Green Building system at http://www.solaroofgarden.com and
will respond by offering some feedback and practical help –
especially on the GrassRoots initiative that we are sponsoring
in collaboration with the Institute of Simplified Hydroponics
(visit their WebSite at http://www.carbon.com).

Together we can build a GREEN millennium - I remain yours truly,
Richard Nelson
