[GBlist] Rain chaing on large cistern

Hi,

In my volunteer life I coordinate a community garden. The garden is located
on church property. We are putting a 5,000 gallon cistern on the roof to
collect rain water. Some of the water flow will have to be diverted to go
into the cistern. One suggestion that has been made is to use rain chains.
I have the following questions and concerns that I'm hoping someone might be
able to answer:

1. Some of the chains will be quite long and I am worried about the weight.
How to I ensure they don't take the eaves off the church? How do I attach
them to the eaves?
2. The chains won't be hanging vertically, but we will make the taut. Will
the water still flow down them due to surface tensions etc? What about
during a significant rain event, if flow is really heavy will the water
continue to go down the chain?

I would appreciate any input. I have to have the installed by next Tuesday.

Thanks
