RE: [GBlist] more attic ventilation questions
Solar Attic http://www.solarattic.com/ has an interesting solution to the
roof ventilation problem. Their electronically controlled fan blows heated
air outside in the summer and inside in the winter to help heat the house,
they also have a system that heats pool water with the heat collected in the
attic. The systems has a low overall thermal efficiency but it is a simple
cost effective solution that it easily retrofitted into existing spaces.

Subject: [GBlist] more attic ventilation questions
Hello all,
I too have attic ventilation problems. I also have attic insulation
problems, but I know how to tackle those. My house has a dormer on the
upper half-story, which means I've got a flat roof. There are no gable
vents, and I cannot afford to retrofit them. The roof is one year old;
unfortunately, it IS black asphalt, but its the previous owners that put
that thing on. Next time, I'll choose differently. In the meantime, I wish
to plan some course of action for ventilation as long as I'll be
insulating. We've got gable vents. Is there some way we can use those in
conjunction with some roof vent, turbine or solar powered? When I
reinsulate the attic above the dormer, how much space should I leave
between insulation and the decking for air ventilation (keeping in mind
there's not a whole lot of space with a flat roof). Thanks much in
advance.
Best,
Aimee
