Re: [GBlist] Big thought du jour
=========Architects are right when they say that they are
at the mercy of building codes and client committees and have no time to do
a good job within available fees. Builders are right when they say that
architects leave too much out of drawings. Ordinary citizens are right when
they complain about lifeless cities and the lack of affordable housing.
=========================================================================
Is it possible for these people to create a framework? Can
safety, health, environmental impact, cost and function, build us a better
planet? My auto, cornflakes and television are built without my micro
management. Why do my uneducated ideas/warped preferences get unleashed on
the rest of you, just because I own the land or have the money? Does form
follow function? How far should it follow? Rows and rows of tract houses
come to mind. How about all that exciting architecture of the 60s/70s/80s
built with the communist vision? It will be a fine line to follow, but not
impossible. Kind of like a planned retirement village gone global.
