[GBlist] re recirculators for homes
Sacie,
I have researched how to reduce the energy loss on recirculations systems in
the past and I have found two effective ways to make this work.
Recirculation pumps (Grundfas) can come with a time and temperature
controls. The time control limits the period in which the pump can run say
5a-5p and during this period the pump runs a limited period of time by
cycling only as needed to maintain a predetermined temperature in the loop.
This combination should keep the runtime down to a few hours a day.
Another option is to use a demand type pump (Metlund) which runs only when a
door bell type button is pushed. The door bell ringer activate the pump
which runs for a few minutes to heat up the loop and then the pump is turned
off. This system can have multiple remote receivers at other locations such
as a kitchen or second bathroom. The pump in this case is located at the
farthest sink etc.. from the DHW heater.
Both are good options, the latter of course uses the least amount of power
while minimizing the loss of water waiting for the source to heat up. Both
of these systems are avialable commercially now.
Thanks,
