We're in the process of building an International Straw Bale Registry
(with The Last Straw Journal, the Straw Bale Assn of Tx, the Global
Straw Building Network, and others chipping in financially and
otherwise), as "where can I see one" seems to be one of our most
frequently asked questions.
We should be ready to start taking data within a few weeks. It may
be a number of months before there are enough homes listed to make
it really useful for planning a tour...
We also hope to be able to get a good picture of how many straw bale
buildings there are in the world, where they are, how they were
built, and who mortgaged and/or insured them.
Because privacy is an issue for many, there are several options from
"drop-ins welcome" to "not open to visitors/don't publish my contact
info or location".
You're invited to take a spin through the site-in-progress at
http://sbregistry.greenbuilder.com and let me know if there's
anything broken or ommitted. You're also welcome to enter actual
structures at this time, though the search mechanism isn't yet in
place.
