[GBlist] Recycled Byildings

Thank you to all those whom have responded to my last posting about health
and environmentally hazardous chemicals in building materials. It seems like
CHMC is teh place to go.

We are currently facins a new challange. We are in the early design fase of
designing a "totally" recycled apartment building in the centre of Oslo.

The project is a demonstration project financed by the Norwegian government
and is being built on the site of the former National hospital which has
been moved and it earlier buildings are in different stages of demolition.

The building will be aprox. 50 000 sq.ft. (4500 sq. meters), there will be
aprox. 45 units whereof half will be used as residence for the elderly.

The goal of the project is to use as many "reused"(not recycled) building
materiales as possible. Where not possible we are to explore refurbishing
existing materiales (to fulfill the current building specs) before turning
to new materiales with a recycled content.

What we are looking for is information about:

- Other similar projects (larger then single family dwelings),
- Testing of masonary building stones (bricks) from the 1890s for reuse
(frost&strength) Ultrasonic testing??
- Reuse and refurbishing of buildingmateriales (not new recycled products)
- Projects where double glass fasades have been used
- Quality requirements for reused concrete aggragate (with reagrds to
additivs, carbonisation, pollutants etc.)
- Reuse of building structures (steel beams, prefab concrete elements i.e.
floors and colums)

As we are in the early stages all help is appreciated.
