Re: [GBlist] Green Modular Home -Portland

The original post said they wanted to find a green modular
home builder. The reason (and implication being), was that by spending less
on a shelter, they would have more money with which to buy a bigger piece of
land. This gave me the impression there was a limit on funds. A trade off of
shelter/land from a finite bag of gold. That being the case, then there is
little point in looking into high-end modular homes. There goes the money
for the extra land right? You pay above the average price of the bargain
modulars, when you start looking at the kind of homes you have listed. That
extra money would come from their land money. This defeats the plan.
You are quite correct about there being some fine (high-end
) modulars out there. I'm sorry if my brush painted any of them. I still
stand on my comments about the lack of equity, and kinds of materials. STAR
only looks at energy consumption, right? That leaves health and resale
value, not to mention insurance rates and issues of quality and longevity. I
also was NOT mocking anybody's question. All I have posted is the sad facts
of manufactured housing.
I live in one, and just bought another one. Why? because I'm poor.
I deal with the issues every day. Trying to sell this otherwise beautiful
40acs., it is worth 1/2 of what it should be, simply because my
"manufactured" home is more than 5yrs old. I kiss mine every day...still no
prince to the rescue.
