It is quite possible Gloria, you lived in a home that had yellow pine
flooring which is exceptionally hard, much more so than white pine one can
occasionally find in lumber yards these days.  I think all the decking
currently available is yellow pine.  We're using t&g 2x6 yellow pine for
ceilings at a cost of .99cents a linear ft and now know we could have
gotten it even cheaper.
	It is also possible to buy old yellow pine, esp. if you live in the east.
25 yrs ago we built a house in which we used old pine for floors, cabinets
and a few walls.   First time I had ever driven a big truck when I picked
it up in Charlottesville Va.  Company is still there.  Splintery to work
with for cabinets.  But looks beautiful.
