Hi,
I disagree with the claim that the amount of biocides on
produce are "minute", or inconsequential.  There is enough
of it left to have an effect on the health of the people eating
it.  Even more so on the health of the people applying it/
 working in the fields.  This is in addition to the amount
of biocides, as well as synthetic fertilizers which end up
in our water supply, and which kill the soil.
I agree that the issue of handling is important, too - but these
two issues are not mutually exclusive.

I haven't read the posts which prompted this one, but I think
that farmers should be able to make reasonable profits, so that
they are not constantly on the verge of bankruptcy.
I do have a strong preference for small farmers over large
corporations, because more often than not the latter don't really 
give a shit about preserving the land/ecosystems, they only worry 
about the bottom line (ie: money).  So: I think profits are ok, but
profits above all are not ok.  I also worry very much about large 
corporations pushing family farmers out of business.
