Re: [GBlist] "Green" Brownfield Redevelopment Grants

Hmmmm,

Since I seem to have become the voice of skepticism...

I find it ironic, and unfair that the redevelopment of brownfields ends up
on the tax-payers bill, rather than the responsible party. Even if the
polluter is hit with a bill, it will likely not cover the costs of
reclamation. Seems like putting a children's (or adult, for that matter)
park on top of a severely polluted space is asking for trouble down the
road. Further, doesn't this increase the relative cost of park space, while
leaving greener fields to be paved over by developers. Methinks perhaps a
K-Mart should be built on the brownfield instead, since the aforementioned
green field is already most of the way towards a park.
Oops, I forgot that most brownfields are often found in less affluent
neighborhoods, hence
poorer people procure potentially poisoness playgrounds.

Am I alone in believing that solutions to these problems require deeper
thinking?

Resource consciousness is rarely a profitable business venture.

In search of earnest solutions to real problems...
