[GBlist] Re: 'normal' cfm for kitchen hood
David, I'm sure you're absolutely right regarding units of measure; this is
an area about which I know nothing. One must start somewhere; it was the
fan manufacturer's trade association who suggested the connection, this I
guess without regard to the commercial style stoves currently in vogue. I
don't have a stove yet, but the one I'll get will not be this type and
frankly I don't think the stove folks would have a valid opinion either.
When I called Fantech about this they certainly didn't ask me what size
stove I had---indeed when I asked them what silent fan with a 150 cfm they
would suggest they offered one at twice that I requested.
I will call EFI and Shelter Supply as well and hope that they agree. I've
dealt with both for years and they do have knowledgeable people. In the
meantime I suggest there must be a scientific means of determining the
correct hood cfm and that most people oversize this item. Sacie Lambertson
In the meantime I must put in the ducting etc.---long before any
consideration is given to stove--regular ole 30" old fashioned type stove
that needs a good silent fan in the hood, with a cfm that won't cause
backdrafts.
