[GBlist] irony alert
While taking a holiday break a his Texas ranch,
President Bush read "Theodore Rex," the second volume
of Edmund Morris' biography of Theodore Roosevelt.
Bush called it "a fabulous book on Teddy Roosevelt -- I
recommend people reading it," according to a recent
article in the Washington Post.
One of the themes of Roosevelt's career was
conservation. Morris describes an address at Stanford
U in 1904, when TR told students "to respect their
natural heritage. ' I feel most emphatically that we
should not turn into shingles a tree which was old when
the first Egyptian conqueror pentrated to the valley of
the Euphrates.'"
Any predictions on TR's influence on Dubya?
