I too like the direction of this thread and your pointing to questions, that answered, would eventually make this list irrelevant!  (Green building would be the norm, but then this group probably would have other diversions...).  The discussion appears to go off topic, but not really. When you consider that our values (as green builders, thinkers and designers) include our desire for the world to be green, and need to have a strategy for change, then we're almost home.
 
Cultural (and cultural change) seems to me to be dance between our unique biochemistry and our physical environments, the end result is that as you wrote, 'We in the west THINK differently.'  I hope a brilliant earthling can come up with an avenue of research (or maybe just the grant money) to start to unify anthropology, neurochemistry, genetics, etc. so that our earth can change more effectively for the better of the whole.
 
But anyway, my original reason for posting was to ask about the meaning of the Nine Dots reference.  Outside the solar system?  Que es?
