[GBlist] SIPS
I've got a couple of questions for you SIPS (Structural Insulated Panels)
practioners out there. For my initiation into their use I'd like to do a
roughly r-40 roof with them. I'd prefer a non-vented roof unless I can be
convinced otherwise. Roofing material will be metal. The south exposure will
carry solar hot water panels and later PV panels, so strength is an issue.
The questions:
- vented or non-vented
- can I site build the panels using probably an expanded polystyrene core
and 7/16" OSB skins. (The local builder supply quoted me a price of $54.75
for a 4' X 8' r-30 panel (4 1/2" thick).
- supplier of the EPS foam
- type of construction adhesive needed
- best panel connection system
I plan to support the roof with glulams on four foot centers. I'd like to
apply the ceiling/soffit material right to the underside of the panel. Seems
like it could be a great system. What do you all think?
Thanks for your time,
Mark
