[GBlist] JOB: Webmaster for Environmental Working Group



WEBMASTER

Environmental Working Group, a unique environmental and public health watchdog group based in Washington,D.C., with a West Coast office in Oakland, CA, is pioneering electronic activism to give people the information they need to be engaged environmental
citizens in their communities.

We seek a Webmaster to manage, improve the design of, and e-market our website (www.ewg.org). The site has been the recent focus of stories by The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, The Washington Post and the Associated Press (available at our website).

Specific duties
  -- Review and redesign the EWG website to strengthen its appeal and utility to journalists, policy makers and citizens concerned about the environment.

-- Conceive and execute innovative campaign uses of the Web, including interactive features that help the public understand the impact of EWG's findings and make their voices heard to government and industry officials.

-- Maximize EWG's online presence through aggressive outreach to Web-based publications, listservs, search engines, and key news and environmental web sites.

-- Oversee and execute frequent, breaking, news-driven updates to the site to include new EWG reports, news stories and other important material.

-- Design and prepare for on-line layout all EWG reports, policy memos and other public materials, in collaboration with the issue analysts and other staff who write and edit these documents. This duty includes preparing reports for hard copy publication.

-- Provide backup IT support to staff members when the IT Director is not available.

Qualifications
-- Two or more years experience in corporate, government or non-profit Web design and editing.

-- Excellent writing, editing and personal communications skills, ideally including experience in public relations, marketing and networking.

-- Design and graphics experience, as well as skills that bring an aesthetic, user-friendly sensibility to the presentation of sometimes-complex material.

-- The ability to work collaboratively with a team of analysts, researchers, publicists and other staff.

Location: Washington, D.C.

Compensation depends on experience and skills.
Excellent health and dental insurance; tax-deferred 403 (b) savings plan. Reports to Vice President for Public Affairs.
