Re: [GBlist] air/water purification

Hi Karen,

Is your concern based on an actual "problem" or just interest in maintaining good air quality?

Generally, HEPA filters are the way to go with respect to removing particluates.  Also, look into the new 3-M filters as these are made from a material that stores charge and attracts particulates, and replaces the cheapos you can get for $1 with much better efficiency.

Air ionizers charge the air, and particulates in the air, which agglomerate together and either fall out of the air (too heavy) or they migrate to a positively charged, or grounded, surface.  This can leave dark stains on light colored furniture and walls (or carpeting), and the stuff is difficult to remove.  Also, do NOT place a negative ion generator near your computer!!!!  The static space charge build up can be lethal to the chips if you "discharge" into the computer.

Also, if need be look into activated charcoal as this is the best (cheapest too) way to remove gaseous contaminants - a lot of house plants can be helpful in this respect too.

Hope this helps...

On the issue of water, I heard of something like this from Germany years back....very interesting!  I would give it some creedence
(even if the AWA doesn't).   If going carbon - go with a carbon block filter over grannular.

Good Luck!

Richard

Subject: [GBlist] air/water purification

Hi everyone.

Regarding air filtration/purification for our new home:  does anyone have any info regarding high-efficiency particulate electronic air filters installed in the HVAC unit versus stand alone ionization and ozonation units?

Also, is anyone familiar with Original Grander Technology water treatment system?  This system is based on the homeopathic premise that no matter how much is removed from water (via distillation, R.O., or whichever type of filtration) the memory of the toxins remain in the water and are as harmful for the body as the toxins themselves.  OGT is a technology claiming to rebalance the energy of the water so that the toxins, while not eliminated, are neutralized and thus no longer harmful to the body.  It is recommended to use only with potable water and in conjunction with a carbon filter.  Any thoughts?

Much appreciated,  Karen Gros
