At the beginning of this month (January 02) there was a good discussion
about programmable thermostats. The answer to turning down the heat is not
categorical. Suggest interested folks look in the archives for the better
responses to that question. It's a good question, in the category about
how long should one leave on fluorescent lights. (also in the archives)
