The useful thing about Baltic Birch (or Finnish Birch, and I believe
their are other sources) is that the cut and sanded edge is handsome and
doesn't need additional edging such as laminate or veneer tape. So there
is a savings in labor and materials.
I heard recently that there is a domestic equivalent, but I haven't been
able to find any info.
