[GBlist] off gassing home's old and new

can someone tell me the average length of time a house will off gas?
if someone were to buy a house what age would be ideal for least amount of
toxins/emissions?
what should one look for in toxic materials (paints, carpets, molds etc)?

if one were to build from scratch what would be the most green and least
toxic way?

kiind regards
michael
