[GBlist] Re: green appliances

Hi Reuben:

Well, I checked my fridge, and all I can find is "Type 5, 16.5 - 18 cu ft".
so I don't know how big it really is. I know that there are only three of
us using it, and there's never enough room. Of course, if we were a
family and not just house-mates, and eating the same meals, a lot of that
problem would be solved. But that aside - it is HUGE on the outside. And
it does use more energy in the ratings than your Sanyo, which I didn't
find in my search. And with three people making meals at different times
of the day, it's open-shut, open-shut all day (and night) long, so I'm sure
we use a lot of energy.

As to the washing machine - my Bosch (and I'm sure the Miele too, as my
friend has one) - the heating system only kicks in when you dial it to a
special "Power Wash" cycle. Otherwise it's never on, and you can cold-
wash to your heart's content. In the booklet, Power Wash is only
recommended for greasy mechanics coveralls and the like.

Another great thing about the Bosch - and I'm not sure about the other
European types - is that you *cannot* use bleach with them. Yee-haw!! to
that! My housemates have had to break the addiction. <G>

I'm going to see if I can find that Sanyo on the 'net. I'm going to need a
small fridge for the downstairs apartment in a year or two, so I might as
well start looking into what there is available.
