Re: [GBlist] freezer on top or bottom and energy efficiency

the only bottom freezer unit I am familiar with is the vestfrost which has a
number of other design features to make it energy efficient but it rates at
320 khw/yr for a 10.5 cubic foot capacity or 30 kwh/yr per foot of fridge.
But then when you look at some of the top fridges out there like the most
energy efficient whirlpool top freezer it is 18.2 cubic feet at 434 kwh/yr
or 23 kwh/yr per cubic foot.

now the numbers are misleading because you have to now what the ambient air
temperature they were measured against, etc. I guess the basic conservation
idea is that you make do with the smallest fridge you can live with with the
best energy rating - which is great if you live in an urban context and can
shop frequently but if you are using a vehicle to make extra trips for
groceries because the teenagers keep stripping the smaller fridge of food
then that is a different and more complex equation.
