I bought a Staber
washing machine several years ago. I liked the design and user maintenance
features. Unfortunately, it's had a recurring problem with water
leaks. The skirt around the top keeps failing. They send us a
replacement kit and we spend time repairing it. It's fine for a
period, but the leaks return. Fortunately I had designed a floor
drain in my laundry room so I can live with the leaking. My only other
concern is the noise. When it spins it sounds like a jet airplane
preparing for takeoff. Good drying action, but quite noisy getting
the results.
The unit does a nice
job on the clothes and is very water efficient. The noise and
continued leak problems are big negatives.

Paul

I see that no one has mentioned the Staber
horizontal-axis
top-loading washer yet. I'm considering getting
one. I checked the
EBN site, and it seemed to be in the middle of the
pack. One of the
things which attracts me is that it's designed to
be field-serviced
by the owner. If possible, I'd *much* rather fix a
problem myself
than wait on a professional. Also, they have no
transmission, and so
don't load a solar electric system so much. So says
their material.
I have no idea if the competitors have similar
motor set-ups.
Any comments? Does anyone have any experience with
them?
