[GBlist] New Books in the Oikos Bookstore

Hello All

Each year we send one mass mailing to highlight the new books we've added to
our online bookstore. You can call us at 800-346-0104 during business hours
(Pacific Time) or visit the bookstore at:

    http://oikos.com

In addition to the old favorites, we have a dozen new titles. Here are some
of my favorites.

Courtyards - decades of research and study are behind this book by John
Reynolds (University of Oregon Professor Emeritus and long time ASES
insider). It shows how courtyards offer thermal as well as aesthetic
benefits, and it offers design guidelines based on successful examples from
Mexico and Europe.

Building with Earth - While many methods are mentioned, the focus of the
book is on a specific technique that may be the best hope for injecting
earth construction into the mainstream. It's all about building with
flexible earthbags. The author apprenticed with Nader Khalili at the
California Institute of Earth Architecture (Cal-Earth) as well as with straw
bale building pioneers Athena and Bill Steen.

Radiant Heating and Cooling Handbook - Yes, we're finally seeing more
information about radiant cooling. This comprehensive engineering manual
covers it all.

Adobe Houses for Today - While this is a great book for those interested in
adobe, what I like most about it is that all 12 house plans are passive
solar. Plus, many of the plans are expandable. You'll find the classic
Mission style as well as designs with pitched roofs that would fit any
neighborhood. It's a great idea book.

Guide to Energy Efficient Commercial Equipment - This is the ACEEE book that
many of you may be familiar with. It's like a "consumer report" for
commercial HVAC and office equipment.

Sun, Wind and Light - This second edition has been expanded from a concept
book to a real design guide for integrating natural forces into commercial
building design. The new co-author, Mark DeKay, has added a more
quantitative aspect, making the book much deeper and more technical than the
first edition.

Natural Interiors - We haven't carried many books on interior design, but
this one really impressed us. The ideas and the photos are great.

We've been selling books for about 10 years and until now have called the
endeavor the Iris Catalog (because our company is Iris Communications), but
we have renamed it the Oikos Bookstore. The change recognizes a shift in
emphasis from promotion of our books through the postal mail to promotion
through the Oikos.com site. I'm explaining this, because name changes tend
to throw people off a bit. It's the same people and the same great service.

Thanks

Bruce
