ADPSR/NY DESIGN COMPETITION:
CALL FOR ENTRIES
PARADOX
DESIGN COMPETITION
Deadline May 14, 2002
Sponsored by Architects/Designers/Planners for Social Responsibility
New York Chapter (ADPSR NY)
In commemoration of its20th anniversary this June, ADPSR New York is
holding
a design competition on the theme of PARADOX ’Äî A seemingly absurd or
self-contradictory statement that is or may be true. - Collins English
Dictionary
ADPSR MISSION
Architects, Designers and Planners for Social Responsibility (ADPSR) is
a
national nonprofit organization committed to correcting the imbalance
between
the need to provide for the common defense and the need to promote the
well
being of all. ADPSR’Äôs efforts are directed toward arms reduction,
protection
of the natural and built environment, and socially responsible
development.
THEME
The ability to consider different sides of an issue as it unfolds has
sustained ADPSR’Äôs mission for the past 20 years. We believe that it is
time
to initiate a dialogue that will raise awareness and contribute to a
better
understanding of the complexity of issues facing the world.
THE DESIGN CHALLENGE
Design professionals and design students of all disciplines, as well as
non-designers are encouraged to create a graphic visual that explores a
contradiction in our world today. The subject may be political,
environmental, or social. Below are some examples of paradoxical issues;
you
are encouraged to depict what is meaningful to you:
* Weapons proliferation and the dependence of local economies on
military
contracts
* Reconstruction at the WTC site and the rebuilding of Afghanistan
* Liberty and security
* Car culture and pollution
* Consumerism and economic growth
