[GBlist] Employment Opportunities in MA
Type of Employment: Part time
Duration of Project: July-December 2002
Application Deadline: July 5, 2002
The consortium of electric and gas utilities that sponsor the ENERGY STAR
Homes program in Massachusetts, the Joint Management Committee (JMC), is
seeking two (2) energy specialists to help facilitate an Energy Codes Pilot
program in each of two Massachusetts communities, Northampton and Arlington.
The goal of the pilot is to assist each community in achieving higher rates
of energy code compliance, resulting in greater energy savings and reduced
greenhouse gas emissions. The pilot will serve as a model to the rest of the
state of how energy code education and enforcement can be a win-win for all
parties involved.
Energy Codes Pilot services:
An experienced energy specialist will work with the city's building
department to provide supplemental residential energy code inspection
services. The energy specialist will be knowledgeable in building science,
HERS ratings, energy modeling, and will be equipped with a blower door, duct
blaster, and flow hood to help support energy code compliance in the
following areas:
* Provide the plan review and code compliance
recommendations on initial building plan applications.
* Deliver energy code inspection services on
each new home in the city as it is constructed. Energy code inspection and
testing will be performed in tandem with the city building official's normal
site inspections. It is anticipated that there will be opportunities for
on-site building official education, as the official's time permits.
* Serve as an energy code resource for city
building officials, builders, subcontractors, home buyers, and the general
public. One-on-one trainings performed, as appropriate.
* Provide training in Home Energy Ratings
(HERS), one of the five energy code compliance documentation paths approved
by the BBRS. Provide HERS rating services, as a more flexible and
performance-based alternative to MAScheck.
Additional requirements:
* Energy Specialist will live near one of the
two Pilot communities.
* Energy Specialist will have sufficient
schedule flexibility to work effectively with the community Building
department's inspection schedule.
Compensation: Commensurate with experience
