[GBlist] LEED Commercial Interiors Pilot info

A post was mis-threaded recently, and the following info from US GBC should help.

(LEED 2.1 TAG Energy & Atmosphere)

July 11, 2002

Members and Friends:

It is with great pleasure that we announce the release of the U.S. Green Building Council's newest tool for transforming the built environment--LEED" for Commercial Interiors (LEED-CI") --and invite you to submit project candidates for inclusion in the pilot phase. The launch of the LEED-CI pilot program today marks the culmination of more than three years of development work by USGBC members who have contributed their expertise in interior design, architecture, engineering, manufacturing and environmental science. Furthermore, the pilot draft of the LEED-CI Rating System incorporates the streamlined documentation procedures of LEED version 2.1 which is scheduled for release later this month.

The LEED-CI Rating System tailors the LEED standard for new construction specifically for tenant improvement projects in office and institutional buildings. It is an integral part of the comprehensive suite of LEED assessment tools under development by the USGBC to promote sustainable design, construction, and operations practices in buildings nationwide. In particular, a companion rating system for core and shell buildings, LEED Core and Shell (LEED-CS), will debut this fall. Together, LEED-CS and LEED-CI will establish green building criteria for commercial office real estate for use by both developers and tenants.

The LEED-CI Pilot will run from July 2002 through October 2003 and will allow us to field test the CI rating system-ensuring that it is practical and workable for real tenant applications. Participants that successfully demonstrate compliance with the LEED-CI requirements will be the first projects formally recognized by the USGBC with LEED-CI certification. At the completion of the pilot program, the feedback collected from the participating projects will guide adjustments to the LEED-CI certification requirements and process prior to the official USGBC member balloting process and public launch of the new rating system.

To apply to participate in the LEED-CI pilot, visit www.usgbc.org to download the application form and submit your completed application to Keith Winn at leed-ci@usgbc.org. The deadline for applications is August 30, 2002.

We strongly encourage you to contribute to the success of the LEED-CI Rating System and the transformation of the market by applying to participate in the pilot program.

Sincerely,

Steven Winter
