[GBlist] <advisory> Investments in Green Companies

Greetings green design and builder folks:

I have never done this before, but am going to make observations about two potential investments in this cranky stock market. Yes !! I know the green building list is not a "stock touter" service, so if you must flame me = be kind...

Note: by way of disclosure I do own positions in both of these issues.
_____________

a) Interface Inc. <http://biz.yahoo.com/p/I/IFSIA.html> Now trading below book, OK sales, recent stable earnings. Upgraded by some analysts, little insider selling. Interest rates remaining low would help. Downside risks include: kind of a lot of debt, potential dropoff in commercial building and remodeling if economy double-dips, cost of capital rising for smaller companies.

b) Astropower. <http://biz.yahoo.com/p/a/apwr.html> (earning's report 8-1-02) Trades at relative low multiple to peers, only a little debt, recent turn to profitability, new projects for PV on affordable remodels, good prospects of PV systems on builder homes. Downside risks: possible falloff in housing market, lower energy prices, highish PE, cost of capital rising for smaller companies.
______________

Note: do not even consider these investments if you don't have a 3- to 5 year time horizon, and never invest more than 5% of your total capital in one issue. Might be good considerations for IRA or 401(k) plan. Not high flyers, just good green companies with considerable potential.

Thanks for your consideration, Bion
