Re: [GBlist] Re: SUV Need
i think im kinda jumping in at the end of a thread, but in defence of some
of us who do own jeep grand cherokees and the like, [the smaller of the
current SUV's], i happen to have one primarily because i need a family
vehicle that will carry my wife, kid and the occasional pack of dogs, as
well as function as a small work truck, or a trailer puller. i am building
constantly, straw bale at the moment, and i hire out as a handy man and
general fix it guy. there is also the problem that my driveway is a mile
and a half long, and in the northern minnesota winters, and even worse the
muddy springs, if you dont have a 4 wheel drive youre either stranded or
walking. ofcourse i could solve that problem by buying an ATV right...
lol.
i do agree tho, that you can do an amazing amount with a small wagon. ive
got an 87 toyota tercel wagon with 200 k miles on it, 35 mph, burns just a
little oil, and carries lots of tools. in the warmer months i use that
unless hauling or towing is needed, and i never have to worry about
scratching it or denting it... or what i put inside it. only paid 200
bucks for it too. heckofa deal.
as for the truck pool, ive known several that have worked wonderfully.
friends in michigan bought an old ford f 150 for 1500 bucks and shared it
with 3 other neighbors. the truck got minimal use, and needed little
upkeep. seems everyone was very happy with the situation. actually,
since im the only one with a truck like vehicle, and a nice trailer, my
friends here use me as the truck pool, calling me to drive to town and pick
up stuff for them... usually followed by asking me to build something.
in gerneral tho, i look down at most of the SUV folks too, as they tend to
live in the city and have absolutely no use for that, or a truck of any
sort. they all should have mopeds.
what was that other thing called..... oh yeah, mass transit.
