Hello Listers,
Through a facilitated process of integrated/sustainable design, I am helping a
local school district put together building performance goals for 2 new
elementary schools. As part of this effort, we are establishing goals related
to energy use, water use, etc. For these factors, we have been able to find
many benchmarks to compare and contrast. However, there are two factors that
we're having a harder time tracking down and I’m hoping some of you may
be able to offer guidance. In particular, these two factors are construction
costs and ‘maintainability’.
In terms of construction costs, we are looking for benchmarks out there that
allow us to compare $/ft2 to establish a reasonable goal. We have
established one benchmark for comparison from data available from a different,
local school district. Can any of you point me in other directions for
additional benchmarks that may be publicly available?
The second factor is ‘maintainability’. Do any of you have
experience with such a factor? The intent behind this idea is to establish a
way to benchmark the concepts of building maintenance and the various related
aspects, from custodial services to the longevity of the building itself. I’m not even
sure if such a thing exists, but would appreciate any leads for more
information that you can offer.
Thanks for you assistance.
Kind Regards,
Julie Sieving
