[GBlist] Advice regarding ground squirrels

Hi all,
Our neighborhood has a public park where ground squirrels live. The city
of Tucson objects to their presence. The reason given is that someone
once got hurt when they stepped in ground squirrel hole. and sued the
city. As the story goes, the person who sues won - meaning that the city
had to pay a lot of money, and they'd like to avoid such experiences in
the future.
So, the park and recreation dept. poisoned the squirrels for a while.
People in the neighborhood found out, and were outraged. As things stand
now, they are giving us a chance to come up with a better system to deal
with the problem, before they take matters into their own hands once
again.

Any advice? - One person tried to fill the holes, but of course the
squirrels dug them up again in no time... The park has warnings regarding
the holes, but apparently this isn't sufficient to protect the city in
case of a law suit.

Thanks in advance,
R.
