Re: [GBlist] building control system for motorized windows

Laurie:

We are currently conducting research on a similar item for optimizing HVAC
and indoor air quality. We are using Horner's "smart stack" OCS
Programmable interface. The only servo type actuators we are using are
Danfoss, 1-10 VAC 20 mA drives. The programming is ladder technology and
not to difficult to work with, if you understand logic programming
techniques. (older Boolean type is best comparison). A little limited in
array storage of information, however the computer interface is relatively
good. They are designed to be stand alone, so if the BCI is working on
other items, this can be incorporated into the existing programming. Our
main focus here is to have a self regulating HVAC system interface, which
monitors humidity, temps and spore counts, as well as the geothermal system
for individual loops, air flows in duct work, and radiant floor temps in
lines. This information is collected and used with variable speed pumps and
control system to optimize the movement of heat and air, and to increase or
decrease ventilation and air cleaning.

Sounds like you are on the right track, have fun with it.

Subject: [GBlist] building control system for motorized windows

Hello Listers -

We are implementing motorized operable windows into a design for a library
to promote natural ventilation/ cooling. The intension is for the operation
of the windows to be controlled by the Building Control System (BCS). The
BCS would monitor indoor and outdoor temperature, humidity levels, and the
HVAC equipment in order to optimize the opening and closing of the windows
to achieve thermal comfort. I am wondering if any of you out there can speak
on personal experiences with what BCS's you may have used, what type of
Commissioning was involved with the creation of the software to operate the
system, do's and don'ts you may have experienced, or any other pertinent
information.

Thank you for your help.
