RE: [GBlist] Thru-the-wall vent plume
Ralph,
I'm burning natural gas in a one year old Laars Endurance boiler that
has concentric piping through the wall so it uses outside air for
combustion. The plume is water vapor, condensing in the cold air. It's
not inefficient, just unsightly.

|What fuel are you burning? Is it a high polluting type of
|fuel? Some of
|the reasons there would be a large amount of smoke would be
|that there is either incomplete combustion, a great deal of
|pollution (due to the type of fuel source and/or incomplete
|combustion), or alot of water vapor. Is your furnace working
|properly? Have you had it checked to see if it is operating
|at the correct temperature, cleaned the burners, have a faulty
|heat exchanger, etc?
|
|Cheers,

|
|We have a furnace with a thru-the-wall vent which is located
|on the side of our house. On cold days, the plume it makes is
|so large that cars stop to see if the house is on fire.
|
|It's already behind a fence with a large bush nearby, but the
|plume overwhelms their effects.
|
|Is there anything we can add to the exhaust to eliminate (or at least
|reduce) the plume?
|
|TIA, Fred Hooper
