PV: RE: typical shaded V-I characteristics

If you are talking about shading an entire PV panel, then yes. For all
practical purposes, the current output of a panel is directly related to
the amount of sunlight hitting it. Say, if the panel put out 3.7 amps at
full sun, assuming 1000 watts / square meter. If a cloud came by and the
amount of sunlight went to 100 watts / square meter, the current available
would be .37 amps. Voltage changes a little, but I would not worry about
it. It changes more from the temperature of the panel decreasing than it
does from change in illumination. Solar panels (or single cells) make
dandy illumination sensors, and are used on every spacecraft put into orbit
as a sun sunsor.

Subject:	PV: typical shaded V-I characteristics

I have a question that someone out there may be able to
easily answer from their experience. Is there a typical
percent reduction in value of the V-I trace between exposure
to full sun versus the "shaded" situation? Any comments
would be appreciated.

Thanks,

- Tom
