    Here's how I made a propane refrigerator cost-effective: When I went
off-grid six years ago, I placed a small ad in the local throw-away
newspaper, indicating that I was looking for a propane fridge, cheap.
    The next day, a man called to tell me he had three of them in his
garage, in unknown condition. I asked: How much? He said: take them away. I
was there in a half hour and hauled away 2 big old Servels and one RV-type
three-way fridge. I set all three up outdoors, hooked up propane and the
first one that worked came indoors. Almost six years later, the old Servel's
still humming along, the second is in the shed for parts, and the RV-type
went bye-bye.
    Meanwhile my owner-designed/built PV system, at around $2000 toatl,
supplies all household needs (lights, TV, stereo, laptop computer, small
tools, etc)
