PV: One of the Reasons that I switched over to PV's for Home Power
One of the Reasons that I switched over to PV's for Home
Power...
---------------
When is an Electric Power or Gas Increase, a Tax Increase?
On our ABC affillate TV station, (channel 13) down here, in
Houston, we have a consumers advocate named Marvin Zindler....
he used to be a sheriffs deputy in the 60's, and when he left the
Sheriffs department, he joined TV channel 13.... you would
see him and the channel 13 cameras as they go out with the
health department, in search of dirty restaurants.... and when
there was a senior citizen in need, there he was on TV, visiting
the offending company, to help the senior citizen out...
This was such a case last night, in which a senior citizen was
complaining to Marvin about her utility bills.... she receives a
bit over $500 a month in Social Security, and out of that, she
has to pay for her Electricity, Gas, phone, and water... the
phone bill. wasn't too bad, and the water was reasonable, but
the power and gas took most of her check.... in fact after all
the utilities were paid, she had only $24 left over for groceries,
medicines, clothes, and any other costs that crop up, month
to month...
Well... last night Marvin was at the office of Reliant Energy
(which is both our electric power and natural gas provider)...
and Marvin got into a shouting match with the Vice president
of Reliant energy, (on TV), for Reliant's 4th increase in the
cost of electricity and natural gas.... and the point of the
shouting was that Reliant paid 300 million dollars to the City
of Houston, for the naming rights of our new (No Property
Tax) stadium which is currently being built....and right after
this payment was paid, Reliant implimented the first of
several Natural Gas and Electricity rate increases...
It might be worth mentioning, that Reliant also furnishes
utility servies to parts of California, and Reliant's profits, last
year were up 700%...
It appears that the city may have been part of this plan, too....
the City had allowed power and electric rates to quietly
increase, so that Reliant would have the extra cash to pay the
300 million dollars, (Naming Rights Money) back the City of
Houston, so that the city could then use this 300 Million dollars
to fund the 'No Property Tax' stadium, so, in Effect, the people
would end up paying for the 'No Property Tax' Stadium.. with
the increase in their eletric power and natural gas bills... How
sweet it must be for those Reliant Energy People...
It just doesn't seem right, to make some of our elderly citizens,
pay most of their social security checks to fund a No Property
Tax (Reliant Energy) Stadium, and to make Reliant Energy and
their executives, very rich, in the process...
This is like a tax increase that is not called a tax increase....
