Dear Dr Alleng,

A good starting point would be the publications of Alexander Maish from 
Sandia National Labs.  For example,
Progress in Photovoltaics vol. 7, 165 (1999)

He also has a paper on the Sandia web site: "Photovoltaic system reliability"
