You can buy an old used scope off of e-bay for under $100 and hook it up to
your system for kicks.  Visual inspection of the power signal is hard to use
in monitoring without a clean reference waveform to match it to I think, but
it sure is neat to use for comparison.  One of these day's I'll have to dig
out my pictures of waveforms from different UPS's and put them online.
You'd be surprised at the waveforms some of these put out!
