A good idea. But, watch out, many new refrigerators have their coils inside the wall of the fridge! (Duh.) Anybody considering doing what Dan did should run the fridge for awhile and then check the sides, back, and bottom for warmth. If you feel warmth, that is where the dissipating coils are, and you should NOT insulate that area.

If you decide to put insulation on your fridge, you will need to bond the insulation tightly to the metal cabinet with an appropriate adhesive, or else you could get condensation between the old fridge exterior and the new insulation.
